Paint Spray Booth Ventilation and Make Up Air

Paint spray booths live or die on airflow. We design, install and service the ventilation, exhaust and make up air systems that keep booths working properly and safely, for automotive, collision, industrial and aerospace finishing operations across Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC.

What we do on spray booths

  • Booth exhaust fans, motors and drives
  • Make up air units, heaters and controls
  • Filter systems, differential pressure monitoring and alarms
  • Ductwork, dampers and balancing
  • Gas fired heat for make up air, licensed for gas in VA, MD and DC
  • Booth control panels, interlocks and electrical
  • Airflow testing, balancing and troubleshooting

Balance is the whole job

A spray booth has to move a large volume of air and replace every bit of it. If exhaust exceeds the make up air, the booth goes negative and pulls unfiltered air, dust and contaminants in through every gap, which shows up as dirt in the finish. If make up air exceeds exhaust the booth goes positive and pushes overspray out into the shop. Most finish quality complaints we are called for are balance problems, not paint problems.

Heat, filters and airflow

Loaded filters change everything. As they load, airflow drops, the balance shifts and cure quality suffers, which is why differential pressure monitoring matters more than a filter change schedule on the calendar. On heated make up air we also service the gas fired side, and because we hold gas licensing in all three jurisdictions that stays with one contractor.

Paint Spray Booths: Common Questions

Why is there dirt in our finish?

Most often the booth is running negative, so it is pulling unfiltered shop air in through door gaps and seams. That is an airflow balance problem rather than a paint or technique problem.

How often should booth filters be changed?

By differential pressure rather than by calendar. Monitoring pressure across the filters tells you when they are actually loaded, which varies enormously with what you are spraying and how much.

Do you service the make up air heater?

Yes, including gas fired units. We are licensed for gas in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Can you balance an existing booth rather than replace it?

Usually yes. Airflow testing and balancing often resolves finish and cure problems without new equipment. Call (703) 521-2226 to discuss your booth.

Do you work on industrial and aerospace finishing booths?

Yes, alongside automotive and collision booths. Commercial and industrial ventilation is core work for us.

Perry Aire Services is licensed, bonded and insured in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia in all four trades we practice, including gas, and we are Carrier DDC control experts. We hold a 4.5 star rating across 187 Google reviews. Call (703) 521-2226 or request service.
